Orebro Art College runs a two year education in fine art. All students have their own studiospace and free selection among the courses of the college. Every semester the college does a extensive trip (the cost for this is part of the semester fee. The recent years more than 50% of the students that have applied for fine art on university level, has been accepted.

The college was founded by Mats Nilsson. Until 1999 it was part of the educational association Studieframjandet. Since then the college has been completely self-contained. It is one of approximately 15 preparatory art schools in Sweden.

Non-profit society

The collegs is run and owned by the non-profit society The Friends of Orebro Art College. This is a member of FRIKS, Free Art and Handicraft Educations. The society also has some other activities such as courses, lectures, exhibitions, art lottery and more. An important part of the activities are the scholarships that the society presents to young artists.

Membership in The Friends of Orebro Art College cost 150 sek for a single person, 300 sek for a family, company or organization.

The board of The Friends of Orebro Art College is also the board of Orebro Art College. Presently the members of the board are Kerstin Wagner (chairman), Thomas Esbjörnsson (treasurer), Peter Ekström (secretary), Mats Nilsson, Lena Ryö, Anna-Karin Wulgué, Loulou Cherinet, Cecilia Jansson, Marja-leena Sillanpää, Ulf Lernhammar, Jan-Erik Sahlberg, Richard Kennett and Jens Haraldsson.

Teachers

The teachers of Orebro Art College are professional artists. The colleg has four headteachers. They are:

mlspMarja-leena Sillanpää, headteacher in sculpture and installation. Borrn 1965 in Björneborg, Finland. Education: Royal Institute of Art 1999-2004. Peter Ekström, headmaster and headteacher in art history and art theory for the first year students. Born 1954 in Örebro. Education: Artschool Kuben Örebro, 1973-1974 Gerlesborgsskolan Stockholm. Important exhibitions: 1992 Örebro Konsthall, 1994 Örebro Konstmuseum, 1996 Stockholm Art Fair, 2000 Göteborgs Domkyrka, 2005 Örebro Konsthall, 2014 Örebro Länsmuseum. He has published several books and is a guest lecturer at Örebro University. Also chief editor of the webmagazine Kulturdelen. He has been headmaster since 2001.
